Knowledge, Tooling, and Time

For any job, you usually need three things, Knowledge (how to do it), Tooling (the tools to do it), and Time (the time to do it). In theory, anyone can do any job as long as they have these three things.

AI compresses time

AI compresses time, not complexity. Many people have the naive notion that thanks to AI, anyone can do anything now. I've seen this a lot with app development, suddenly everyone can build an app. That's true, but that has always been true; before the dawn of AI coding assistants…

We tried to skip the cable car line in Rio… ended up needing rescue

It was a Thursday, and my wife and I decided to visit Sugarloaf Mountain, which is a hill on the bay of Rio de Janeiro. The way to get there is by cable car from the Bondinho Park. From there, the cable car takes you to the first station on Morro da Urca, a smaller hill right next to Sugarloaf.

Government incompetence without consequences

We recently received terrible news. According to official Mexican government figures, in just nine months the country has recorded more than one million SARS-CoV-2 infections and over 100,000 deaths from COVID-19.

Disconnected from reality

A few days ago, a post by Ricardo Salinas Pliego about pensions caused some controversy. Although the author presented it as an essay, it is really a brief opinion piece explaining how he believes pensions should work.
